To be published in "Divulgando", the paper of the Associacao dos Servidores do Proderj, Rio de Janeiro.

"Politicagem" is a Brazilian Portuguese term for political manipulation/corruption.

Brazil has lived with dengue fever since the 80's. The disease, transmitted by the mosquito Aedes Aegypt has, since the beginning of 2008, already killed, at least 82 people in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The highest percentage of deaths have been children. This is the official number only. I heard from a health authority that the real number of victims is being covered up. In times of municipal elections here, divulging actual numbers of dengue fever fatalities is bad propaganda. This recent epidemic reveals the bankruptcy of the public health service in Brazil. Ravaged by the lack of government investments and budgets embezzled by corrupt politicians. While federal, state and city governments are arguing about who's to blame for the mosquito, some emergency measures are being taken. Army field hospitals, "hydratation tents", firemen and health agents are working house-to-house to eradicate suspected mosquito colonies with larvicide and fumigation. However, it is hard to know who is killing more: mosquitoes or politicians.
