Left-wing ideology is based around social justice, the abolition of private property rights in favor of public and personal property rights, and common ownership of the means of production by the working class, either directly or through the guidance of a representative government. Only a very small handful of Democratic politicians throughout history have ever supported truly left-wing ideals. Most have been center-right. Franklin D. Roosevelt is probably the closest we've had to a socialist president, but even he was merely a social-democrat, and social-democracy is a centrist ideology at best. (He also had some fascist tendencies, as he was quite racist and xenophobic, so it could be argued that he wasn't even a true social-democrat. "Progressive conservatism" seems to best describe his ideology.)
so damn funny all the little Obama camp followers were all for picking on Bush, but when you attack their hope, they attack you Latuff. Imperialism has not changed, despite putting a new face on it. The only thing that has changed is which corporate interests have the ear of the whitehouse. THAT IS ALL!
I'll add that -- and I've said this many times in other forums -- Obama has to get out of Iraq, get out of Afghanistan, and cut the U.S. defense budget in half. Then, and ONLY then, will he even have a chance of fixing the mess bequeathed to him by eight wretched years of Junior Bush. If not he will fail, and the future will be very bleak for this country, and the world.
