We have lost about 3 out of 400 troops currently serving in afghanistan. Swedish military are currently not engaging in a lot of combat.
On many missions Swedish soldiers aren't even armed, most of their work is closer to police work. They keep things clean of violence so the people have a chance to pick up things and start to rebuild their shattered country.
Yes the US fucked things up a lot. They hardly improved matters when they left for Iraq instead of safeguarding the people of afghanistan which made them stretch their forces too thin. This in turn gave the taliban a chance to return. (And dont get me started on their utter incompetence in Iraq)
But that doesn't mean we can't show some solidarity with the Afghani people. Yes we are cleaning up USA made mistakes but I hardly think the Afghani people care. What matters is the results. IMHO most countries are too afraid to show support for UN missions, as soon as some soldiers die they call their troops back.
